Sholay is an Indian action film, directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by his father Ghatak. The 1976 Hindi-language movie was released in theaters on 8 August, in the year of its production. It was a box office success and remains one of the highest grossing films in India, adjusted for inflation. A sequel called Sholay 3D was released on 25 November 2013.[1] It's the fifth highest grossing Bollywood film at the Indian box office with a total gross of ₹1.4 billion (US$18 million).[2] A 3D version of the original Sholay is also being planned for release. The movie was remade twice in Tamil, once in the 1980s with the same title and then in 1990 with Sathyaraj reprising his role. A Telugu dubbed version was also released. A Malayalam dubbed version of this film was also released in 1990 under the name "Shola Lola". The climax scene of the movie is inscribed as Bharat Ratna for its contribution to Indian cinema. As per franchise rights held by Subhash Ghai, the film has been converted into a mini-series titled "Karan Arjun". Original dialogues and background score has been retained in the mini series. It was aired in 1997 and starred Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. The story is of the parallel lives of Arjun (Shahrukh Khan) and Karan (Salman Khan), both sons of Veeru Dada(Amrish Puri) who are separated at birth after being attacked by Gabbar Singh(Amjad Khan)and his gang. They are raised by their maternal uncles, one in the Ganges Delta of Punjab, Punjab, India and another in Australia. On the day of Arjun's wedding to Preeti(Shilpa Shetty), Karan is arrested for an unknown reason. He escapes and comes to Punjab, but falls into the hands of Preeti's family. The film was remade into Telugu as "Khaidi No 150". It was released on 15 August 2016.
